Several months ago we updated our entertainment center by purchasing a new plasma television. We were enthralled by the great picture and sound after having been accustomed to our old twenty-seven inch television for many happy years. In the heat of drooling over our new television, I neglected to ask the sales associate one thing, how do I care for a plasma television? Do I use glass cleaner and a paper towel to wipe the screen just as you would with any other TV?

Well, once we had our plasma television home for a relatively short period, that question was addressed when I noticed little finger prints, smudges, and spots of unidentified sticky substances placed almost systematically across the screen. At that point, I contacted the retailer from whom we purchased the plasma television and discovered that special care is required for these TVs; otherwise, you may actually end-up damaging their delicate screens.

These are methods that I use to clean my plasma television screen

I give the screen a good dusting using a soft lint-free or microfiber cloth at least once a week. It's a good idea to a weekly dusting, even if you don't visibly see build-up. You'll be amazed by the dust that is actually there, just going undetected. Gently wipe the surface of the plasma screen and surrounding frame. If you have fingerprints, smudges, or other substances on your plasma's screen, (which I often do, since I have children), then you will need to go another route. DO NOT use glass cleaner and paper towels to clean your plasma television's screen. The formula used in glass cleaner may damage the anti-glare coating on the screen, and paper towels are abrasive and may leave scratches. You need to purchase a cleaner that is specialized for use on plasma televisions. You can purchase this in kits that sometimes come with a microfiber cloth. Make sure that you clean the TV screen thoroughly, and dry it completely. You may need to repeat if the screen is especially dirty. I have listed some links to webpages where you may purchase a cleaning kit at the end of this article.

Protect your plasma television screen

Also, make a point to protect your plasma TV's screen from becoming damaged. If you have long fingernails, use gloves when dusting or cleaning, and try to avoid hard objects from coming in contact with the television screen.Your plasma television was a big investment; by following these tips you should have years of enjoyment from the comfort of your living room. You will find that caring for and cleaning your plasma uses different methods than the old standard televisions, but the extra effort is definitely worth it.
